‘LaGrand understands importance of business’

During these tough economic times, there is no one I would trust more to by my state senator than David LaGrand. David has been an advocate for our area and has been at the forefront of major revitalization efforts in the city for many years, one of which helped to change my neighborhood. Eight years ago, Wealthy Street was very different from what is is today. That change, in large part, is due to the success of LaGrand’s Wealthy Street Bakery.
Recently, I heard David talk about the role small-business owners must play in our state – the need to make an entrepreneurial shift; I could not agree more. As a small-business owner myself, I know how disastrous the Michigan Business Tax has been. LaGrand’s opponent, State Representative Dave Hildenbrand, voted for the MBT surcharge he now calls a “job killer.”
Only through the foresight and innovative, businesslike ideas of leaders such as David LaGrand will we see prosperity in Michigan again.

‘LaGrand will work to improve schools’

Letter to the Editor, Grand Rapids Press
Thursday, October 28th

As someone entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring a quality education in our public schools, I am please that David LaGrand may be our next representative in the Michigan state Senate. Past policymakers from both sides of the aisle are in agreement we need a post-Prop A restructuring of school funding to guarantee the educational and economic future of our state. This will take leadership able to go beyond simple Band-Aid solutions and partisan clichés.
Watching David LaGrand pioneer successful businesses and find creative solutions to create more efficiency in city government, I know he has what we desperately need in Lansing. This is why I have endorsed him as have the educational leaders that make up Friends of Kent County Schools. Those who want to return Michigan’s public school system to one of the best in our country should please do not return those who have failed us in Lansing; instead, cast a vote for David LaGrand.

‘LaGrand has skills to lead in Lansing’

Letter to the Editor, Grand Rapids Press

It is a privilege to support David LaGrand for the office of state senator. David is thoughtful, compassionate and courageous leader. Not only is he a candidate with a business background, he has worked his whole life towards eradicating many of the social issues that plague our community.
I know David’s work within the community firsthand. He has been a strong advocate for the Restorative Justice Initiative to try and cure many of the issues facing the criminal defense system. As a businessman, he opened two small businesses – the Wealthy Street Bakery and Four Friends Coffeehouse – in troubled parts of the community that directly led to those neighborhood’s growth.
David is devoted to seeing our community thrive. As a city commissioner, he led the way in many of the city’s most difficult decisions: balancing the budget and appointing new city leaders. He has the skills, experience and compassion necessary to be a strong leader for our region in Lansing. I urge others to vote for David LaGrand on Nov. 2.
